Protégé -

2012-13

Protégé -

It is with great excitement that I share with you this year’s newest Protégé Winners. West Brook students Miguel Perez and Maurissa Reyes were selected from over 100 entries for exhibition in the 27th Annual AMSET Protégé Contest. Maurissa received an honorable mention for her drawing. Miguel was recognized with the top entry of the year receiving a 4 year art scholarship to Lamar. Miguel’s photo entry is the first ever photograph to win Protégé in the history of the contest. AMSET staff suggested it was the first time a  West Brook student has ever won 1st place at this prestigious contest.

On a professional note, this is very exciting news because of all of the contests the West Brook Photography Department enters, this is one of the biggest and potentially rewarding for my students. To have a student when this is just…awesome!

On a personal note, Miguel REALLY, REALLY deserved this award. Miguel has always worked hard to meet the deadlines and excel with everything I push my students to do, but he really made sure this contest went well. All of his work is worthy of this level of recognition. That is what makes this so special, because this was not just one special piece he lucked into, but all of his work is like this!!! And Miguel is so deserving for putting up with me for 4 years of nagging and pushing, always pushing for yet another contest! So proud of and excited for Miguel!! So many good things in store for him! At the show, people were wanting to buy his print and commission him for work!!! Wow!!! And now such a great opportunity to start at Lamar with a scholarship!!

The display of all 23 selected entries, and the 8 winners will be on display at the West Brook Library March 25-29. Please watch for an upcoming Channel 7 broadcast with recent winners from ATPI earlier this month as well as Protégé.

Open, Miguel P (1st Per) received an HM.

Black and White, Gabby T (1st Per) received 3rd Place. Kris H received an HM.

RE TRF results. I learned very late Friday night that Students competed against Adults..."Open to All Ages" is how the contest details reads. While it says a lot about the results to say that you received any ribbon in a wide open field with semi-professional photographers, I have talked to the Contest Chairman about splitting the results into two two age divisions in the future. So, an extra Kudos for those of you all receiving ribbons this year and in the past.
