Word 2007 vs. 2003 (and earlier) and other Word Tips

My recommendation is to change the "Save as type:" to "Word 97-2003.doc"
You can also click on the option to keep it as a Word Document AND Maintain compatibility with Word 97-2003, but a person with 2003 will still not be able to open it.

2003 vs. 2007 Image Properties variation
Below is jsut ONE of the many changes that will appear different depending on if you are working on a 97-2003 .doc or a 2007 .docx
Document saved as 2007 (or new document with default preferences)

Document saves as 2003 (or with new document preferences set to yield a 97-2003 compatible document)
Lots of changes, but plenty of similarities. You will loose the nifty 3d art, but "whoop tee do"! You can always do a "Save As" if you must.

Word Options to Change
Save your documents as a 2003 Document:

If you don't make the following change, then you will not be able to share your document with anybody who does not have Office 2007. You will loose a FEW features...but NOTHING really important. And, if you save as 97-2003, if you have 2007 at home, it will continue to open and update the 97-2003 document. I promise if you save in 2007, you are going to end up in a pickle at some point, at least until the foreseeable future. When Office 2007 has a much higher market share, THEN maybe you can risk saving all of your documents as 2007.

Get rid of that stupid little Mini Toolbar that keeps getting in the way:

Actually, it is pretty cool, but it is ALWAYS getting in the way. So, I'll make this an option option for you. I am shutting mine off...and I will address the keyboard way of doing things.

The STYLE will need to be changed to Word 2003...see the screen shot below and a live demonstration during class. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/921174#LetMeFixItMyselfAlways

After changing the style for THIS document, Go ahead and change your default to permanently. Unfortunately, this will another of those settings that will NOT travel with you from one computer to another.
