Shooting Locations and Tips
Travel in groups...never alone. Do NOT trespass, or otherwise get into trouble just to get a picture. Shoot from public accessible areas.
Places to shoot around Beaumont:
River Front Park - may seem unoriginal, but it is a great place to shoot. Also, because of changes in Sunset conditions.
Crockett Street - good for portraits
Downtown, around Tyrell Library, Jefferson Theater
Tyrell Park - Botanical Garden, Horse Stables
Keith and Dishman Road - great for sunsets...just about any place the road crosses the LNVA canal. Farms, Bails of hay, Rice Farms
One specific location is the intersection of the LNVA over Keith Road between Dishman and 105. There is a fairly good 360 vista of the West Sky and East Sky for setting Sun and Rising Moon over water, depending on time of year.
Hike and Bike area - just as you enter the hike and bike area from Calder, to the left, there is a hill. On the other side of the hill is a nice pond. You can shoot this from the top of the hill, or down on the water level. The hike and Bike area is also a decent place to shoot the night stars shooting to the north with out driving out of town. Evadale would better, but this location is not too bad.
Salt Water Barrier - End of Bigner St (North off of E. Lucas)
Colliers Ferry - Next to Beaumont Country Club - Nice sunrise view of the Neches. East Lucas - turn left on Magnolia.
Skateboard Park - ALWAYS
LNVA Canal at various crossings...makes for nice mirror shots at sunset and timelapses
Rockin Dollar Ranch - just outside of Beaumont before Cooks Lake Road, down a mile or two on the right side. Private property, but has been very helpful to allow photographers on their property in the past to shoot their horses. Call ahead to make sure it is ok.
BISD ag farm. I am working on getting access cleared for shooting on this property.
A&M Ag Farm - gated to the East Side of Aggie Road, but the West Side with the rice fields is wide open.
Property of other classmates family/friends. Don't be bashful, or stingy. If you know of a great spot, tell the rest of the class, and plan a mini field trip with your friends. Most people who are proud of their yards would be happy to have people appreciate it for it's beauty.
Railroads - do NOT shoot while standing ON the rail road. It is trespassing and easily prosecuted if you put the picture on line of a person standing on the railroad and you take the picture. You can shoot from the side as long as you are on public property. But even the crossing is protected.
Grain Elevator on Major and Mclean - DON'T TRESPASS!
Places to shoot around Houston:
San Jacinto Monument
Wall of Water - 0.25 mi south of the Galleria.
Timelapses from the tops of parking garages for various hotels.
