West Brook High School Final Exam Schedule

Senior Testing (all classes regular length)

NOTE: For all 2 day tests (tests that start on one day, and finish on the 2nd day), rather than give the first half on the first day, the entire test will be given during the 2nd day of the testing period. This is nonnegotiable. If you insist, I will double the length of the test, and give you half on the first day.

2009-10 Senior Finals

May 25th (Tues) - Is a regular class day. Some senior teachers my actually start testing the Friday tests on this day because they need two hours. So that seniors do not have to return after memorial day. However, it is still a regular class day. If you are exempting your test on Friday, you are still expected to be present in class on Tuesday.

May 26 - May 27 (Wed and Thurs)      Periods 1, 3, 5, and 7. Since my test will not take an entire hour, you will test on THURSDAY. Please no complaining. The alternative to this is to give you HALF the test on Wednesday and half on Thursday. Please plan to present and watch other presentations on Wednesday. You should plan to present yours on Tuesday if at all possible to make sure you are done. If you intend to exempt, you must present have all projects in and present by Tuesday. Periods 2, 4 and 6 are NORMAL classes. ALL seniors are expected to be in all classes on this day. If you exempt 1, 3, 5, or 7...and you skip 2, 4, and 6, you risk loosing your exemption status and or credit.

May 28 (Friday)              Periods 2, 4 and 6 - Amazingly, the Admin has given you an extra two days off this year. So, you have only Friday to take your test. Please make sure you all have your projects turned in by Thursday and have presented your PowerPoint. Periods 1, 3, 5, and 7, you are generally expected to be in these classes as well. If you skip the class just because the exam has passed, your exemption status could be revoked, or if you have too many absences, loosing credit for the year. If a 2 hour exam is needed, some teachers may begin testing on May 25 (Tuesday).

May 30 (Monday)             School Holiday

June 1 (Tuesday)               Make Ups

2009-10 Underclassman Final Exam Schedule

June 2 (Wednesday)               Periods 2, 4, 5 (2nd half), and 6   (   "     "      "      ")

June 3 (Thursday)                  Make-ups (don't skip if you are in attendance trouble...your exemption could be voided...or even worse...loose credit for a class)

Please review the following emails from Mr. Daniels and other APs:

Senior Teachers,

I explained to department heads that we must follow Board Policy for exemptions.  Seniors will receive their normal 3 exemptions.  They are not allowed TAKS exemptions.  I have seniors telling me that are exempt from everything.  This is not possible.

If Policy is not followed, it may be that in the future no exemptions will be allowed.  Please make sure you are beyond reproach in this matter.  School Board members got involved last year and a change in policy is possible if we do not follow the current guidelines.

Senior Teachers,

Before senior exams begin, make sure your rolls are taken correctly.  Students are going from one teacher to another telling them that teachers are announcing that seniors do not have to come to school at all next week.  Be very careful.  If you have told a student they do not have to come to school, you are breaking the law.  Do not put yourself in a precarious position, especially before Senior exams.

Staff,

As predicted, parents have called board members saying that West Brook is allowing seniors to be off for an inordinate amount of time.  This was relayed to me by an Assistant Superintendent.  I am going to reiterate that senior teachers must follow the finals schedule.  In addition remember that seniors are only allotted 3 exemptions.  You may not give extra exemptions.  This is a directive and failure to abide by the directive may result in suspension and/or a change in the teaching assignment for next year.

Teachers,

Be prepared to show an exemption coupon for each student in your class who is not present the scheduled day of the exam or show they were marked absent in the computer.

DO NOT GIVE EXAMS EARLY TO ANY STUDENT other than choir students performing at graduation (check e-mail list from L. Castolenia), or those with administrative approval.  Students with administrative approval will have a form signed by Mr. Daniels.  Choir students will need to take 1st and/or 4th period exams on Wednesday or Thursday.

TEACHERS,

REMINDER:

STUDENTS MUST REMAIN IN YOUR CLASSROOMS THE ENTIRE EXAM PERIOD.  DO NOT RELEASE THEM EARLY!

RELEASE A STUDENT ONLY IF A PASS IS SENT FROM THE OFFICE WITH AN ADMINISTRATOR’S SIGNATURE.
