1.      The negative is put into the enlarger with which side of the negative up?

    1. Shiny side up…arch up.

2.      The emulsion side of the negative is the dull or shiny side?

    1. dull

3.      The negative carrier is inserted in the enlarger with the negative…curved up or down?

    1. curved edges DOWN (live armadillo)

4.      How many 8x10s can be made from a full sheet of paper?

    1. 1

5.      How many 5x7s can be made from a full sheet of paper?

    2. Stop – 15 seconds – stop action of developer
    3. Fixer – 5 minutes – remove fixer, make image permanent

8.  Why do you use test strips?

    1. To save paper to identify the correct exposure before printing a full size picture

9.  What color is the safelight for paper?

    1. Yellow or Red

10.  What does the enlarger height control?

    1. Percentage of magnification (NOT the size of the picture)

11.  Adjusting ring on the enlarger lens controls?

    1. Quantity of light coming from the enlarger

12.  To increase or decrease exposure, what do you do?

    1. Increase exposure to darken the print by increasing the time
    2. Decrease exposure to lighten the print by decreasing the time

13.  Improperly agitated prints develop how?

    1. Unevenly

14.  Improperly washed prints do what?

    1. Turn colors (brown, splotchy black, yellow)

15.  What are you making when you place negatives directly on the paper?

    1. Contact or proof print

16.  What effect of too much to too little light falling on the paper?

    1. Too much…too dark (note…too dark does NOT mean you left it in the developer too long…it means that you left it under the light too long. Always develop for the full amount of time).
    2. Too little…too light
