Blood Drives

Thinking about giving BLOOD?  DON'T!

At least not during this class. Great if you CAN do it...just don't do it during this class! Not trying to be a BLOOD hater, but PLEASE sign up for another class. Too much to do in here!! Pick on some other class that is easier to stay caught up. This is an activity based class, and it is difficult to make up an absence from a class that generally requires you to be sitting in front of a computer.

But on a personal note, giving blood, while a good thing, could be a challenging experience, and not well suited for a school function. Personally, I have to eat a LARGE meal BEFORE going to donate.

Seriously, my recommendation is to go eat a nice buffet lunch on the day you want to give blood, like on a Saturday, and THEN go give blood.

This way, you don't have to worry about having to be ICED down, etc. Seriously, even if your IRON tests ok, if you start not to feel well, or you aren't able to provide enough blood, they won't be able to use your blood unless it is a full pint. And when the WORLD starts to spin and you are starting to feel chilled as they BLOOD leaves your body, they have to kick you back, ice you down and weight the bag down a little to tip the scale, just so you don't end up wasting your time. They will tell you that you will be ok, but it won't help the feeling that the BLOOD is being DRAINED from your body and the chills you will have.

Now, on the other hand, if you go eat a large meal for lunch, you will do much better giving blood an hour or two later.
