3 Views Poster Collage Assignment

Assignment:   Shoot, design and produce a Poster of the pictures you took of your still life.

Goals:             Learn how to take a variety of views of one object, then cull it down to your best three to tell a story or show the item from three different angles. Additional goals: learn how to shoot still life objects, use high speed flash at 1/180th, shoot macros, and control White Balance which shooting with flash, natual light

Tools:             Cameras, Closeup filters, Props, Lighting, Picasa, Adobe Photoshop, MS Word

 

 

Instructions for shooting:

Shoot a variety of objects you want to shoot.

Make arrangements with various objects

Shoot a variety of picture from close up with wide angle, then take the same shot again, zoom in from a distance.

 

Settings

Shoot on M with flash. Set the shutter speed to 1/180 and aperture set to f8.

If you want to shoot with OUT the flash, turn the camera to P, but be sure to set the White Balance. FN – then set to either AWB, or Fluorescent or Cloudy, or Tungsten.

 

Shoot your partner shooting…for an environmental portrait.

 

Transfer of images

Insert memory card, contacts facing up

Go to my computer

Go to E Drive. 2x Click on DCIM. Click on #ed folder and CUT (Ctrl + X). Go to your Photo Folder on your P drive and PASTE (Ctrl + V).

Rename folder 2011-02-17 3 Views by YOUR NAME

 

 

Instructions for creating the poster:    

  1. Make a "poster collage" of 3 pictures, i.e. one 5x7, and two smaller pictures of 3 different pictures that you took of your object.

  2. Use MS Word to insert your pictures. Set to square layout and resize each photo. You can use Photoshop to do some basic editing of the photos before you insert them into word. Just be sure to Save As a copy when working with an original image. IOW, don't modify your original.

  3. Add the topic (3 Views or something along that line) on the poster using Word Art.

  4. Place a 1 - 3 pixel border around each picture (really...your choice of size, style and color...whatever looks nice).

  5. ALTERNATE: You may use Picasa to create the collage from beginning to end.

  6. NOTE: Alternate views should be substantially different.
